The Community I advocate for wants tough questions asked by Opposition MLA’s During this Sitting!
By Kendall Worth!
As talked about in this Blog Post, the house did go back in on October 13th 2022.
After members of my community, of people living in poverty, heard that nothing was done to address inflation for Income Assistance recipients during the short summer sitting, people agree that tough question need to be asked during this session of the legislature. As we all know one thing that does happen during a sitting of Province House is Question Period. MLA’s in the Nova Scotia Liberal and New Democratic Parties gets to ask the PC Ministers questions.
My Community wants the following questions asked during this fall sitting:
Is the government still working on transformation of the Employment Support and Income Assistance (ESIA) program? I have asked before.
And if yes, please ask what is the update on this so-called Transformation.
What is the Government doing to address inflation, and for the homeless population?
To date we do have not seen questions around these issues. Other questions my community wants asked:
Will this Current PC Government look at changing the EI Claw back that the previous Liberal government said no to? You can get more detail on this issue from a previous post.
- My
community would also like to see a question asked during this sitting
about Social
Isolation
and whether the government is willing to address this or not.
On behalf of my community, I say: Even though the Federal Government is working on a new Disability Benefit this does not cancel out the provincial responsibility to end poverty.
There is lots to consider here!
