As many of you readers know I do not advertise events taking place around Halifax much on my BLOG. However, sometimes I make exception when I come across an opportunity for people I advocate for, to have an affordable night out. Just like the Summer Events I talk about here which are free, and just like the All Together Link events, (no longer exists) having nights out is good for mental health. However when you look at the history of the Income Assitance Rates in Nova Scotia, (At present the Standard Household rate is $1005 a month) and once rent and bills are paid, a night out is not affordable within their budgets. I invite you to see this article which illustrates the reasons why.
However for anyone living in poverty an affordable night out is coming your way. See below for details on March 14th, 2025.
Of course everyone is welcome but for anyone who otherwise spends Friday nights alone and socially isolated in your apartment, due to living a life in poverty, here is your upcoming opportunity to have an affordable Friday night out.
I know many of you live day to day life dealing with the system I talk about on my BLOG, and do not like going to social stuff like this open mic without having a group of friends to go with. This BLOG post illustrates examples of reasons why. My advice is do not let being "By-yourself" stop you from coming.
I personally know the people who are connected to the Workers Action Center and I have every reason to believe that people on Income Assistance are not going to experience stimga directed toward them at this event.
I hope this open Mic is successful!
