Easter 2025 come with some Disappointment for our large community of People living in poverty!

So it turns out that since my Recent BLOG Post, I have been talking to many contacts in my community who support my BLOG, and some first voice. I have been asking if any local, charity, or Not for Profit,or Food Bank etc are hosting Easter Dinners for those living alone, are down and out, and the homeless. In other words, for low income/poor people who are going to have no invitation from family or friends, this year for Easter Dinner.

As far as I , and the public, knows no organization like Brunswick Street Mission, Hope Cottage,
Salvation Army, Etc. are hosting such dinners this year. Some are saying Souls Harbour has talked about the possibility, but no clear information has been released to the public about an Easter Dinner.

At Christmas, organizations and agencies go out of their way, to make sure that Christmas Dinner opportunities are available to those who are living in poverty, and lonely. Even at Thanksgiving 2024 Hope Cottage hosted a turkey dinner. However, this Easter weekend, these organizations seem to have ghosted the holiday spirit. That is what first voice whom I have been in touch with are saying.

  •  Is it because as I pointed out in this post, those same agencies found that hosting Easter Dinners was too expensive and they did not have funding to host them this year?
  • Is it because we happen to be at present in the middle of a federal election and those who normally volunteer to run the free meal programs on holidays are caught up with commitments working on the Federal Election Campaign which are currently happening.
  • Is it because, as pointed out in this post, (and many First Voice think the BLOG post in this Link  proves the possibility) more and more people within the population of housed people, call themselves introverts? Does this include people who used to volunteer at at the free holiday meal programs? Are they losing interest in volunteering to serve meals?

Everyone I have talked to in my community, is telling me that, at least as far as “the public” knows
there is nothing for those who are in need of an Easter Dinner year. Organization’ decisions to not host an Easter meal, is going to play a strong part in the reasons why the mental health of People who benefit from those Easter Dinners, will be worse. Remember most people who benefit from these holiday dinners are people who live alone, who are not going to have invites to go to the home of a friend or a family member, and who do not have enough money to purchase the making of a dinner, or to purchase an Easter holiday special at a restaurant, after this month’s rent and bills are paid.

Also what needs to be understood by the community at large is many who I advocate for, depend on these free holidays meals as part of what they do to maintain their mental health over this 4 day weekend, and on other holidays. Easter Dinner hosted by a local Not - For Profit at a location like a community church hall, Ect may only be a 2 hour opportunity for on one out of the 4 days over Easter weekend, but for those who deal with Social Isloation  as part of their Day to Day lives, that 2 hours means a lot to those I advocate for through my BLOG.

Next Easter is one year away, I say lets not let this happen Next Year!
