The Disability community is waiting for the Canadian Senate to finish it’s work on Bill C22, which will eventually lead to a disability benefit. In the meantime, I was contacted on Social Media last night with an update on Bill C22.
For previous blog posts on this topic see https://worthmatters.blogspot.com/search/label/disability%20benefit and also, after Bill 22 went to the Senate, this letter: https://worthmatters.blogspot.com/2023/02/an-open-letter-to-canadian-senators.html
Just last night I saw the following:

While inflation, including and especially the cost of rent, continues to rise, living with a disability is even more expensive. Meanwhile Canadians with a disability wait for C-22 to complete it’s way through the Canadian Senate and receive Royal Assent.
In Nova Scotia as this post points out there has been no increase in the Income Assistance Rates in the 2023 budget. The Employment Support and Income Assistance Program is the only program we have here in Nova Scotia that comes close to a provincial disability allowance.
One thing the community of people I advocate for worries about is another election getting called before the Bill is passed and receives Royal Assent. The next government may then decide they are not going to do it. The people, from the disability community, that I am in touch with, are also very worried about the homeless population among persons with disabilities. Worried that the numbers are going to continue to increase while overall rent continues to increase and inflation feels out of control -- meaning persons with disabilities continue to have less ability to afford rent and to eat!
