The Latest on Bill C-22

 By Kendall Worth

Sources tell me that the Committee work in the Canadian Senate, is all done and this bill is now on it’s way back to the House of Commons. That means, that, if Bill C22 is not back at the house already, it will be shortly.

You can view the video on twitter at:   https://twitter.com/i/status/1656746066903982081

Also People are once again writing to the Senate about the need to get this bill passed quickly.

And why the Rush?

This tweet explains:

As someone who reports specifically on the Nova Scotia Disability Community, we certainly can relate to that tweet. In Nova Scotia we have patiently waited months,  since Bill C22 got introduced, hoping for something better then the current Employment Support and Income Assistance program allowance. People in other provinces are patiently waiting too.  One reason why persons with Disabilities,  in Toronto and Vancouver/BC are suffering the same  as Nova Scotians with Disabilities, is because Vancouver, Toronto and Halifax are the 3 most expensive cities in Canada.  In Canada, in 2023, NO ONE has a reason to be homeless. It is the strong hope of the community that the allowance provided through the Canadian Disability Benefit will be something much better then the $950.00 Standard House Hold Rate provided in Nova Scotia, or (From what Sources tell me) $1300 a month provided through ODSP in Ontario. I was never able to get any information on the amount provided in BC, however sources do tell me that it is not enough to pay rent, or in some cases after rent is paid there is nothing left to come and go, on.

Folks with disabilities and their supporters need to, and will continue to, fight to get BILL C22 passed, and declared in force, quickly.

After that, we can get to work on making sure that everyone (whatever the reason they have been committed to a life of poverty by  a system that creates it)  has enough to live on. See my previous posts on Basic  Income. Especially this one:   and this one.
