On the evening of September 27th 2023 the All Together Link held it’s first event since receiving a Halifax Community Health Board grant. Some readers were looking for a report on how this event went sooner, but due to other demands I am just getting around to doing a post on this now. So first, my apologies for a one-week delay in reporting on the Mending and Blending event.
In this Recent post, I interviewed Margaret Anne McHugh part of the committee of 4, I am also part of, and who is the one getting this project implemented. This project, also known as the Mitigating Social Isolation project, got approved for funding from the Halifax Community Health Board to hold events over 10 months. This, however, actually was the second event, we held through the Mitigating Social Isolation project. We held this event in June. However, the September 27th 2023 event is the first event held since we got the Community Health grant.
The September 27th event was a bit of a disappointment. Only one person showed up for the event. The person who did show up; even though we were very happy to have her attend the event, was, sadly, not part of the target audience. However, just to be clear, we are not turning anyone away from attending these events. One reason why having her was an asset is because she volunteers at the Saint Mary’s Basilica Outreach. So hopefully, moving forward, she will help spread the word to people living in poverty. For that person this event was a great experience. The instructor - Emma Lang - was great, and she learned some great skills about sewing.
You can find all the details and register for an activity if you are inclined (it is not mandatory but helps us to know the numbers) at alltogetherlink.com
There are two events in October. Next Event: Tools for Social Anxiety will be on October 11th 2023, at Dal Social Work Clinic; followed by Making Connections: Make a Button, Make a Friend. On Oct. 18th, and, hopefully, there will be a better turnout.
