On Friday October 13th and Saturday October 14th 2023 the Facebook group “Helping the homeless Nova Scotia” https://www.facebook.com/groups/1184913062008614/ is organizing a protest which I strongly encourage you to support. I know that I will be supporting this protest myself.

Halifax, along with many other Cities in Canada, is experiencing a major Housing Crises. https://worthmatters.blogspot.com/search/label/housing%20crisis and for more on the Increasing Homeless population see https://worthmatters.blogspot.com/search/label/homelessness

People I am in-touch with see this as a protest where those who are participating are taking a stand on something that there is no excuse for. That is right, there is no excuse for the increasing homeless population in Halifax. Their is also no Excess for the situations people are forced to live with these days wish are forcing people to become more and more at risk of someday, possibility becoming homeless. The overall principal situation in this is People not having enough money to pay rent, Bills, and to live on.

Reason on why this protest is important for people to support are as follows:

  • As explained in this BLOG post here https://worthmatters.blogspot.com/2023/09/seems-there-is-no-escaping-anymore.html the homeless situation is becoming more and more Visible to the Public Eye.

  • Considering that Income Assistance Rates, CPP disability Rates, and wages people are earning from jobs that are available in Halifax's economy, as I made a points about in this BLOG post here https://worthmatters.blogspot.com/2023/10/where-are-landlords-of-condo-style.html is not enough to pay rent and live on anymore. (Plus inflation behaving the way that is these days) People not making a enough money to live on is contributing to the housing Crises.

  • As pointed out in this BLOG post here https://worthmatters.blogspot.com/2023/10/province-house-returns-on-october-12th.html Province House goes back on the 12th of October. It is protests like this one that helps communicate the message to the politicians. Sources tell me that during Question Period during this upcoming sitting, opposition MLA’s will be aggressively raising questions about the current housing crises to Government.

  • Overall, any opportunity to speak out these days is badly needed, and this protest is providing the opportunity to do so as Government continues doing next to nothing to address this.

We must question the situation when we hear about people, even those working full time, becoming homeless. It is not just people who are on Government Assistance anymore. Also included within the homeless population are person’s with disabilities. Carrie Ann Bugden who I recently reported on here: https://worthmatters.blogspot.com/2023/08/carrie-ann-bugdens-story.html for Part#1; and here https://worthmatters.blogspot.com/2023/09/carrieann-bugdens-story-part2.html for Part#2; just got informed by the University on Thursday of last week that if she decides to leave Mount Saint Vincent U., she must inform the university by the end of November, and she has to be off campus by mid-December. Carrie Ann Bugden is just one example of many persons with disabilities who are at risk of becoming homeless these days, if they are not homeless already.  In her case this means that starting in mid-December if arrangements cannot be made to get her home to her family in Newfoundland immediately, then she is going to be living in a tent somewhere in Halifax.

According to some I have talked to recently, another reason why they are also of the opinion, is that while the Liberal Government was in power from 2013 till 2021, if the ESIA transformation had of moved any faster and if we had of seen better results coming from this transformation then maybe the housing crisis would not be so visible like it currentially is. Whether this opinion is true or not, we do not know. The bottom line is... something needs to be done ASAP.

I want to end this post by thanking the organizers who got organizing this protest. I encourage many of you to support because aggressive action is needed.
