Readers of my BLOG may remember last Summer 2024, See here where I did I a series of BLOGS advertising the the free events taking place around HRM. Then I provided those living in poverty encouragement to attend these events. The argument I made is that going to events (especially when they are free, which is very affordable -- that is within the budget of Income Assistance recipients) is good for their mental health - especially when there is entertainment and music provided for free at these events. In this post I made the argument that music is good for mental health. Listening to music can uplift spirits and make you feel happier -- a wonderful escape from feelings of sadness, reduces stress, and provides a feeling of relaxation,. of Sadness, Reduces Stress and provides feelings of Relaxation.
I know that some welfare recipients are scared and have anxiety about stepping outside of their comfort zone, as this Post illustrates. But remember, if any Income Assistance recipients are reading this, if you do run into people who are going to treat you with stigma for being on Income Assitance, while attending on your own, remember the advice I have given you in the past. It is none of these of their business that you are on Income Assitance.
For more on the Solution we tried in Halifax to try and help Income Assistance recipients make friends who they can attend summer events with see https://worthmatters.blogspot.com/2025/05/social-isolation-reflecting-on-all.html
