Reporting on an unacceptial Recent turn of events turn of events in Halifax's Homeless community

 By Kendall Worth

Note: the following image is the letter released by Out of the Cold Association on July 11th, 2025. This is unacceptable. I urge you to see below this image for my report on community concerns.

Everyone I have spoken to in my community,  agrees that this is a big mistake. Furthermore removing the services that Out of the Cold staff was providing on those modulator home sites, are services which are badly needed by the residents who live in those modulator homes. The staff who work for Out of the Cold have always had a good reputation for their work helping the homeless population in our city. Out of the Cold staff have years of experience working with the Homeless population and their concern is that the next service provider may not have that same experience.

Whats More?

This whole turn of events brings up question: What happens Next? The city is alaso shutting down some of the tenting sites where the homeless are campin. Is the City's next plan to shut down and remove the modulator homes? This move is only going to put more people on the street. Also,  for the Out of the Cold staff who just lost their jobs, this uncalled for move imeans they have no choice but to worry about their future. For the Homeless population themselves, this move was certainly a step in the wrong direction. Really, we should be Leaving the Homeless alone unless we are helping them. This recent move of the city and the province is doing nothing to help them. If these residents gets ordered to vacate the sites, where are they supposed to go as the housing crises continues?

Lets hope that things gets resolved and the Out of the Cold staff who were working at these sites will get their jobs back.  Most importantly, let's hope the site residents do not get ordered to vacate next.
