I want to start this current post off, with this Video, in which Premier Tim Houston attempts to divide the community by making winners and losers. He is making an announcement where he reversing some of the egregious cuts he recently implemented in the 2026 budget. I reported on these cuts in this recent post. This announcement is good for some people with disabilities, who are seeing their organization or program's funding restored, but in general he is trying to play some in the community against others, and we must resist that.

In this CBC new article a list of the programs that have had their funding reinstated is provided. In this Global News Story the Premier apologizes very insincerely to Nova Scotians for some of the cuts.
I personally what to thank the Premier for reversing the cuts to some programs and services that persons with disabilities depend on. However, I 100% agree that other cuts should also be reversed – beyond disability and Mi’kmaq and African Nova Scotia impacts. They did not like being called racists but they have continued to allow cuts to remain, that are literally pocket change in the budget, but mean jobs and services, and community supports, especially in rural Nova Scotia where they are in short supply to start with, will be ended!
Persons with Disabilities are part of who I advocate for through my BLOG, and I know first hand how our lives would be impacted starting in the very near future if these cuts had stayed in place.
Hopefully next year the Nova Scotia Government will think differently about where to make cuts, if they plan them! Let’s see some of their corporate friends feel the pain instead of the poor, disabled, seniors, racialized people, and jobs in rural N.S. (museums and visitors centres just to start!).
Maybe raising the HST to the original 15% is a better move than making cuts which will have impacts on Nova Scotians, especially vulnerable Nova Scotians.
